Hello,
I dont post here a lot as I dont have too many problems but this one is doing my head in! My Sebae Anemone has decided he doesn't like it where he was and wants to leave the tank by climbing the glass! He is up the top now just below the surface and stuck fast and wrapped around the power cable of a powerhead, I cant move him!
He is very healthy, moves a little now and then but this is a new one. I have checked water quality and all is fine, regular changes and ligting is adequate although I feel the reason for him moving may be he needs more light and I am addressing that right now. But how do I move him? The Hosting clown doesn't like his home upside down!

You could try rubbing his 'foot' with an icecube (wrapped in a sandwich bag or cling film - you dont want to burn the Nem), only let the icecube touch each spot of a sec or so & gently lift him

Although in saying that : -
If he is moving up the tank - I guess it could be becauce the light level is not enough & he is trying to get closer

Just spotted you are addressing the lighting issue - wot lighting you using at the mo

At the moment I have Flourescents in there, 2 compacts florescents so 2 tubes on each. I think they are 18w each.
I have an Aqua one tank AR620T Click here for details and that was the lighting that came with it but I think the water is a little too deep for the lghting to work properly, I am looking into more/stronger lights so any help would be appreciated. I have already had to Hack the hood to get the skimmer in so I suppose I could hack it some more but would prefer to replace the tubes with stronger units.

I think you need to upgrade now, 36w is way way to little lighting for a Nem

Why O' Why did you buy one

I am begining to feel like a stuck record here, what is it with people not reasearching the animals they buy

Also a 20g tank is very small for a nem as well as parameters are very difficult to keep stable

Although I have kept Tropical fish for years I am a relative newbie to Saltwater.
I had to rely on the shops advice during the initial setup. I realise now that I shouldn't have the sebae in there but I have been doing all I can to help him. I have stopped using the shop now.
He is very healthy though and the ligting situation will be sorted within a few days, I just need some pointers in the right direction to purchase some

He is very healthy

Under 36w Light ing I doubt that

Really you are going to need to get Halide Lighting & soon

Although I have kept Tropical fish for years I am a relative newbie to Saltwater.

A youngtank shouldnt house a Nem at all as stability is key in survival of Nems, which neither you or your tank can offer, so even upgrading the lighting wont necessarily save the Nem

IMO If you want hime to survive I would rehome him

Aint being hostile just getting fedup with reading about newbies throwing Nems in a tank that aint anywhere near suitable after doing no reasearch whatsoever & then blaming there LFS

Noone knows how long Nems live in the wild but it is believed to be hundereds of years

How long do you think yours will last?

So the point is, give or sell the anemone to someone else, who has a large, mature tank.

All the books I have state anemones as "easy to keep". I don't know why they say this, because for the vast majority of anemones, the exact opposite is true.

However, they also state anemones as having a very short lifespan... :( poor things. I understand Chac's frustation, but unfortunately I was one of the people that helped him become frustrated. I have killed anemones, too. Take yours back before you have a dead anemone on your conscience as well :good: .
