Hello all.

I have a Juwel Rekord 80 tank.

Recently i thought i had a leak but in all honesty i think it was just water running down the back due to condensation.

This is the tank:

I was just wondering, is it safe/okay to seal the black trim underneath that the tank sits on, to the actual tank? I thought this was already stuck on, but as iv found out this moment when cleaning it, it is not.

My question is in relation to making the tank more secure/safe to leakages from below. As i said im sure i DONT have a leak, this is just a precaution and seeking advice as to if this is okay. I believe that if i add silicone sealant to the trim, and put the tank in place, that it will bond with the sealant that is already there...and the glass, therefore making it more leak proof.

As i said im just seeking clarification if this is okay/safe to do so, as im no expert.

Thanks in advance.

I believe those are not sealed on the bottom because the only thing that really needs to be sealed is on the bottom of the tank on the inside where those sides connect. I don't think sealing the bottom of the tank would really solve anything.

Take off the trim and place the tank on a level surface with some newspaper underneath (preferably outside) and fill. Check for leaks. If everything is fine then empyy the tank and spot weld the trim back in place using aquarium sealant. I wouldn't seal it all the way round (just in the corners) incase you ever need to remove the trim again for whatever reason.
