Is all sealant aquarium safe, or is there a sealant specifically made for aquariums?? If there is can you buy aqaurium sealant an lfs??

Cheers

You can buy special aquarium sealant - try a google search and you should find some shops that sell it.

Personally i wouldn't risk using any other sealent unless it said on it aquarium safe.

No, absolutely not. Most sealants for household use, kitchens bathrooms etc., contain fungicides, usually Arsenic compounds which will kill your fish. I think most people here will agree with that. To me, if it is not marked as aquarium use etc., I wouldn't use it. That is not the same as saying you should only buy from a fish shop.

This is a topic that comes up often, and you will get a lot of differing views. If you use the search, you'll find a number of debates, some of which got quite heated.

OK, thanks. I'll have a look in my lfs for some fish safe sealant :good:

There are LOTS of other outlets for sealant, but if you are unsure buy at a reputable (not just "local") fish shop !

Depends how much you need... if its a small amount theres going to be little point in shopping anywhere else than the LFS.
But BIG savings can be had if you need the giant cartridges ( same size as goes in the sealant guns) for say, building a tank.

Well I've got a second hand tank, the seals are all OK I've already checked. I was considering re-sealing them, would I have to take off the old sealant then put on the new stuff or can you just apply the new sealant ontop of the old stuff?
