wow,,,, just simply wow,,,

are sea horses easy to maintain? what kinda tank do they require? how much?

i would love to have some of them, once im a bit more experienced!

Darren.

From what ive read theyre easy to maintain....as long as theyre Tank Bred/Raised! Wild caught ones are very hard to keep, they require feedings of live food which can prove to be exspensive and they dont take frozen foods usually.
Tank wise, you want a relatively tall tank. Although they may seem small, they are fairly active. You want alot of hitching posts for them as theyre like monkeys, they use their tails to hold ont o things most of the day
Chemistry wise, they are relatively hardy. They can handle slight readings of ammonia etc, but of course this isnt ideal for them and they may still react badly. A salinity of aroun 1.022 is fine and they prefer lower templs around 24 degrees celcius.
My two cost me £110 :hyper:
Before you go for SHs, go for a normal reef tank, so you can become experienced with the SW side of chemistry, maintenance etc :good:
IMO so far they are easier than i thought...they were supposed to go grey due to stress and not eat for a few days...but touch wood nothing like thats happened so far :D

Thank you very much for your comments and yes Jenny ill post a pic of the tank up soon :D

Seahorses change colour to match their surroundings.

It is illegal to collect seahorses from the wild due to many of them being taken for the Chinese medicine trade. CITES has put a ban on the wild seahorse trade to prevent them becoming any more endangered than they already are. Therefore any seahorse you see in the shops should be captive bred. As mentioned above the captive bred ones are much easier to keep and will eat pretty much anything offered.

Lovely, When I have the money i'll get some. in the meantime i'll request that you keep us updated with their progress.

We were shoping today and saw a pair of SH's and I now want a marine tank.... i have desided not until i move house as im not risking moving them with the cost of marine fish. but as long as the new house can house my 5ft and at least a 4ft for the marine then i will be looking at some.

They are so majestic in there movements.
