 I have been searching the internet in vain for the past month trying to find out where in the U.K. supplies either seahorses or clown fish. It is impossible and then I found this site. Does anyone know of anything that might help me? PLEASE im desperate!!! I live near Glasgow in Scotland but will travel anywhere. Will even buy from USA mail order if there is such a thing. Please email me [email protected] Thanks :(

I can't help you with the availability, but I am curious what kind of tank you want to put these fish into. Seahorses need a very specific environment in order to live, I've seen many people kill seahorses because they don't know how to take care of them.

I've seen sea horses and clowns on many occasions at The Goldfish Bowl in Oxford. Very good shop, regularly in PFK. not sure about mail order though

Julie,

According to PFK's YourLocalGuide listings there are the following in Glasgow which say they do marine:

Coral Reef Aquarium, 34 Paisley Road West, Glasgow G51 1LB
Misko Aquatics, Unit 12 Block 57, Dalziel Road, Hillington Business Park, Glasgow G52 4NN or at www.miskotech.com

They also list M & R Dogfish, Glasgow 0141 427 3615 in their list of Top 40 Shops but it doesn't say whether they do marine.

HTH, Eddie

Thanks for all your help everyone! No I'm not going to put them in the same tank lol! It would be one or other. Yes I agree superman I may not be suited to the type of specific need that seahorses require. I think a road trip to england is in order. Fingers crossed I pass my driving test on monday. Thanks again :)

They sell both in Australia, not sure about mail order though. As for the argument about whether or not to keep seahorse, let me paste my thoughts on the subject which I wrote elsewhere...

Personally I don't see the difference between keeping seahorses to keeping any other delicate creature such as say elephant noses. As long as you are keeping them in the right enviroment and look after them I cannot see why some people would get so up tight. As soon as seahorse is mentioned some people tend to go off the deep end without any justification. Personally I think it is an animal that I think more "responsible" people who "know what they're doing" should, and in some cases must keep. I think along the lines that if people keep captivity bred seahorses, breed them and then sell the young to pet shops so others can buy them then it would reduce, if not eliminate the sales of wild ones as their business would be undermined if people breeding them kept their prices lower. All in all I tend to think that alot of people moaning about people keeping them are not thinking with their heads where it should be as the above solution would eliminate the very collection from the wild they are fighting against, which in my humble oppinion is a good thing.

Shirley Aquatics in Birmingham usually have one or two. I'd love to keep some, but it's never going to happen :(

My LFS in Belfast sell clown fish and sometimes seahorses, its a brilliant shop and has the biggest tank i've ever seen with the biggest puffer i've ever seen! the tank is about 6 feet high 4 feet wide and about 6 feet long!! and the puffer is about 2 feet long!

Goodluck Joe!

I got my clown fish yipee!! they r doing well in the new tank. I'm going to wait a couple of months and get them a nice little anemone. I got a beautiful piece of rock the other day with these things growing on it. they r kinda like little stars with a white circle in the middle. :D

There are three fish shops in edinburgh that sell marine fish and tanks.

Clownfish ive seen vary from red and white to black and white.

Best shops are on leith walk - aqatic rooms
either dalry or gorgie road - wonder world or something like that
and near meadowbank - aquacadabra

all sell a good selecton of fish and live coral
