I was wondering if the sea monkey kit will make brine shrimp suitable to feed my puffers with. I've had one of these kits before and the shrimp lasted for months and they bred too. Brine shrimp eggs are very hard to find here. The sea monkey kit just seems easier and comes with the little container and everything you need.

as far as i know sea monkeys are just brine shrimp. i would give it a shot.

I believe 'sea monkeys' are actually a hybrid - so they live longer...

you'd be better off going for normal run of the mill brine shrimp if you ask me.

theyre brine shrimp yes. but it would be cheaper to either order teh eggs online (youre in canada, does bigalsonline canada sell them???). or check with your lfs, one of them is bound to sell live ones..............

You are right about this.

However, I think this is an interesting idea, and perhaps worth the effort of more examination. A longer living, heartier shrimp would be great for fishkeepers if they still had equivelent nutritional value and did not harm the fish.

i would, i always feed them to my fish, they absolutly love em and i get no problems so go for it  :)

Great :D thanks for the replies! I bought a kit today for $9.99 at toy's R us. I don't mind paying the extra money, saves me hunting down the brine shrimp eggs (my friend says they used to be common but can't find them anymore). The kit comes with the tank, conditioner, eggs and food. I remember having these when I was a little kid, the eggs hatched instantly and the sea monkeys bred so I'm thinking this will supply me with brine shrimp for a little while.

Thanks Nutter for sharing your experience with them, I wanted to double check there were no weird chemicals in there that would hurt fish.
