Ok, Ive got 5 SD's. 4/5 have a straight fin, and 1/5 has a hooked bottom fin. I think this is the female. Now, in the last couple of days, she has been chasing all the other fish out from behind a piece of fake wood...she is "guarding" it quite actively.

I dont see eggs, or fry, but Ive got the feeling she is either breeding, or has already had babies! Yeseterday I saw saw one of the males also chasing the fish away from behind the fake peice of wood. Is this breeding, or territorial conflicts?

Cheers.

Hmmmmm,

They do get a little territorial. But as far as the eggs, I HIGHLY doubt it, sadly. I don't think there has ever been a successful report of SDs breeding in a NON-clinical environment, i.e. at home........ Don't quote me though.

As far as I know they have to have pretty precise water conditions, well all conditions actually, to mate in captivity.

;)

The one with the hook is probably a red hook mytennis . A larger member of the silver dollar family and also more aggressive in nature. These also keep their silver dollar shape more so as they grow. They school with reg dollars and is probably just playing as silver dollars do. Silver dollars sometimes seem almost to be fighting but its just their behaviour and is quite normal.
