Is there anyway of getting rid of the oily scum from my frozen food off the top of the water in my tropical fresh water tank.

Just float some kitchen paper on top of the tank that removes it.

i get the very same scum since the supplier used a different supplier for the fish.

i'ved got a ehiem surface skimmer although i'm just waiting for another intake pipe for it.

oh and mine usually desperses by morning but it's still not pleasant

Just glide some tissue across the surface and the scum will adhere to the tissue

Just whipe the top of the water off with a paper towel. :)

The paper towel works well, so does moving your filter outlet just level or above the water. I have a fluval surface skimmer on one of my tanks and it does the job very well, but is fiddly in that it can allow some air into your filter if set incorrectly, also had a zebra danio end up in the filter via the skimmer. Interested how well the ehiem one works Paul_MTS.
