Scratches On Glass

Good idea calling auto glass place, maybe a detailing shop as well? Hope the scratches are on the outside.
Whatever the solution I'd be weary of putting any kind of chemical inside the tank.

how bad are these scratches.....my tank has somr long large scrathes but when the waters in the tank you hardly notice them.....there is somewhere on the site about scratches...try looking in the diy section :good:

Not 100% sure but i remeber seeing on the forum that someone said use toothpaste? Not sure now thinking about it.... that could be acrylic tanks. Sorry, not much help afterall :S

mine has some one where some one has used a one of hte yellow and green scorers (sp) so they are little fine ones but i like them adds to the effect LOL

i always presumed nothing could be done? be interested to see the responses

i recently got a Juwel Rio 300 and didnt notice a couple of really long scratches on it when i got it (cheap anyway), it really put me off, i can do little ones here and there but not big long 3-4" scratches right down the middle, so i turned the tank around, problem solved as there are no scratches on the back of the tank

Depending on how deep the scratches are you could always try sanding paper on them, I know this sounds silly but it is the method that most auto repairers will use to take scratches out of car windscreens.
But make sure that you use a wet and dry paper/pad with at least a 2000 grain, although if it was me I would try a 5000 paper/pad first. Then buff it up using a fast cutting polishing compound.(T-Cut or similar)

Yeah! Silicone. You spread it across the scratch like you would with caulk and a crack!

Brasso, works wonders on scratched CD's so as long as you clean it well you should fill the scratch and when the wax goes clear you won't notice a thing.

If it doesn't clear up well/fill the scratch then just clean it off with some window cleaner and try something else

Don't use toothpaste, it just scratches away at the glass leaving more, smaller scratches which looks nasty and ruins the tank

If the scratches arn't too deep then you can use Jewellers Rough, damp cloth a a dap of rouge and rub.

If the tank is just a normal slab sided tank and no filter attachments then just turn the tank around (front becomes back)
