Scratches On Glass

elbow grease and a fine cutting agent. unless you empty the tank and use a buffer.

Really!? I didn't think it was practical to eliminate scratches on glass. I have a tank I'm emptying soon which has a few annoying scratches...

JEWELLERS ROUGE is very good for removing scratches on watch faces (even Rolex crystal faces)...
costs about £12.00 a jar,use a small amount and in a circular motion...
did hear though that on fish tanks when trying to remove scratches it can weaken the glass, others will know about that i guess though

Some quick research on the net reveals that people have indeed used jewelers rouge to eliminate scratches on glass aquariums, something I thought wasn't really practical. I might have to have a go at this.

I imagine it would weaken the glass, by effectively polishing some of it away, thus making it thinner... I can't immediately think of any other reason it would weaken it though... Wouldn't have thought it was a problem in most cases but it would perhaps be better if someone who actually knows what they are talking about commented though :)

why not try cheap toothpaste? it kept the RAF flying! however the amount of glass removed is so small, its not much chance of it weakening the tank enough to hurt.

Toothpaste polishes glass? I thought that was plastic?

???? tooth paste is a very fine grinding/cutting compound! effectively grit with a mint flavour lubricant!
