dose anyone know a way to fix glass that has been scratched ?

is it possible?

just got a free 15 gallon (with alot of scratches on it)

i rreally dont want to have to replace the glass

if theres no way to fix it then ill just use it as a hospital tank

This would be very interesting for me too :) I have fixed acrylic before but never glass  AFAIK there is no easy way of fixing it but lets see if someone ca come up with something ;)

Are the scrathches inside or out? The inside ones can not be treated with the eye glass goop. There is not doubt that it will be toxic to fish. the outside maybe, however I would be worried about inadvertent transfer of the goop into the tank from the hands after cleaning the outside etc. I would probably be a good idea to have a visit with a tech at an automotive glass shiop. They may be able to polish the scratches out. Be careful of cost, a new 15 gal tank isn't real expensive!

I believe that eye glass repair stuff only works on the polycarbonate glasses....as in Lexan which is just stronger acrylic.

There's really no way to fix scratched glass by yourself if it's too deep, it's cheaper to buy a new tank or replace that section of glass.
If you can feel the scratch with your fingernail, you're out of luck. If it looks like a hair stuck to glass when at a certain angle then you can get a glass polishing kit.

here's some info on polishing glass. Glass polsihing.

yep its hopeless the scratch is too deep.....

ill try as hard as i can to ignore it

its not that noticeable

but i wanted to know unless it happend in the future and it was reallly noticable

If the scratches can be felt with a finger nail, I don't think they can be removed, unfortunately. If it bothers you that much, it might be worth considering replacing the panel.

If your deep scratch is on the front, you can also flip it around to the back. However, if you have deep scratches all around on the tank, using it as a hospital tank is a great idea.

If it was fine scratches, I have removed those by just polishing with toothpaste (which contains a light polish). There are also glass polishes at some aquarium shops which are great, but only for fine scratches.
