Heeey, I know you guys don't care, but you guys care slightly more than my friends do. ("You got a fish what? Oh.")

I just found a 2.5g squat bowl at the local second hand store. It's very heavy dense glass, made by Anchor Hocking. It's not one of the normal tall, drum style bowls, it's exactly like this one:

Except instead of 1g, it's 2g.

My new girl Veruca goes into it tonight, after I finish cleaning it.

Sweet! Gotta love second hand stores. :D I just got a 5 gallon tank (seamless acrylic with heater, filter, and decor) at one today for $7... don't really need it now but I probably will eventually.

I got friends like that..
"you got 11 bettas, why?"
"because they are beautiful"
"where do you keep them?"
"In the kitchen."
"Bet that makes the kitchen look a mess"
"It does, but I aint bovvered.!" :p :p :p ps I love that bowl, piccies when set up please.

I got two of my three 5gs at the second hand store for less than $10, and they were both filled with useful stuff. It took months of diligent hunting to find 'em, too.

I have an empty 5.3g I could put my girl in to, but it's more of a tank than a bowl, which means I can't nudge her about and relocate her home when I need to. If I thought I was going to keep her in the same place at all times, I'd have put her into the 5.3g and had done with it. So for now, she's in the 2g bowl.

I had sworn to myself I was done with hunting after the last 5.5g was found (and given away to a friend who had her betta in a vase), but when I see 2g bowls like that I'm so tempted I normally give in. I'm replacing all my 1g bowls with 2g bowls. Good for water changes, sick bettas, and the odd impulse buy (cough).

I can't photograph it yet, my new camera is still in the mail. :X

Hi, been reading your find---sounds great, I personally like going to yard sales and seeing what they have. About 4-5 weeks ago I picked up a 5 gallon tank that has 6 sides---1 short which is in front and 1 longer in the back the 2 back sides are 90 degrees to the back side and the 2 front sides are at an angle. I think Petsmart has them for over 30.00 with filter and light, I picked up mine for 1.00 with the light and no filter. I picked up the same tank last year for 1.00 at another yard sale and a 3 or 4 gallon critter keeper (I think that's what they call them) for 1.00 also. Around here the yard sales sell alot of small aquariums and cages for almost nothing. The 2nd hand stores around here (O'FALLON ILLINOIS) are pretty darn exspensive, so I try to stay away from them.

With yard sales and second hand stores, you're playing a game of luck each time. When I was first starting out, I'd go everywhere possible to find cheap bowls and tanks, because where I'm at it's an insanely expensive hobby. Over the course of a year I amassed a fortune in bowls. *laugh* and itty tanks. I gave in and bought my 20G new ($80 for just the glass box, no lid or anything... wait, was it $85? Still more than the average American). Used tanks cost a fair bit, too... but used bowls? Very little resale value, locally. So I snitch them up as often as possible, used. I'm not sure why the bowls themselves are marked down so heavily, I think it's simply because there's more of them.

*edit: Wow, Veruca loves her new bowl. She's jetting all over the place having a proper swim. The 2g squat is far roomier than the 1g drum style. It might even be better than a 2g drum style, for swim space. You know, bettas with their love of the horizontal swim space. I have both, and this one seems built for bettas.

Pardon my deligence but what exactly is a second hand store?

Yup, that's what I'm refering to. Places like The Salvation Army Store and Goodwill.
