Common Name: Schwartzi Cory
Scientific Name: Corydoras Schwartzi
Origin: South America
Average size: 1.5†(mine don’t seem to get any bigger)
Care: Schwartzi cories like to be in a group of 6+. They seem perfectly happy in waters of 70 to 82 degrees Fahrenheit, though 82 will shorten their life span. As for PH mine hav been in PHs of 5.8 – 8.0! they seem content enough to eat in this PH range but acidic seems preferred. They seem more skittish then the other cories I have and they like to hide most of the day, especially when you are near the tank, thus they like placed to hide. They prefer dense plants and rock caves over man-made décor.
Feeding: This fish are very active when they come out to feed. They like to remain close to their fellow cories when they feed and come out and search all over the place for food. They are cory cats so they feed off the bottom, feeling/tasting around the substrate for food. They are content with almost any substrate but rough coral substrate but for the most enjoyable scene a small substrate like sand or ADA aqua soil is the best as they will stick their noses in and move the substrate around and such, it is adorable! Anyway, they will eat sinking wafers, algae wafers, shrimp pellets but they adore blood worms.
Sexing and Breeding: Mine will not breed.. I don’t know why. Trying to sex them is hard since they are so skittish it is hard to see which is bigger as they go an hide when you move your head to look. I imagine it is like all cory cats, the males being smaller and thinner then the females.
Comments: they are enjoyable cory cat and like to shoal more then my other cories, though skittish, sitting in a chair and waiting for them to come out and search for food is well worth the wait to see all of them come out and follow each other.
