They are safe with turbo snails, they eat algae and animal matter and mine love diatoms. they are peaceful and reef safe. They are a great addition to a reef tank.

Whilst they are not the most aggresive hermit i strongly suggest you get replacement shells for themas i have seen my redlegs trying to rehouse inside turbo shells.

They are however probably one of hte lazier cleanup crew. Blue legs tend ot be more efficient but far ore aggressive.

All in all i recomend them though

well i got two of them and after two hourse of drip aclimatisation they are doing well :) i cannot believ it they cost £6 each. im seriosuly thinking of getting my peppermint shrimp online as i cant afford £22 as opposed to £6. Also my mums getting me some shells from the school she works at so they will have a few different stages between shells

Thats a good point regarding the shells actually, I bought a pack of 20 different sized shells for them off eBay :good:

Try reefcritters.co.uk £22 for a peppermint is ridiculous

yer thats where im gona get one from. Also since i can get all things in p+p im probably gonna buy some ceriths, emerald mithrax, skunk cleaner and the pep all from reef critter. I think it will work out at about £40 as opposed to like £60 from my LFS.

annnnyway i manged to snag some pics so here is my hermit crab (other one is hiding)

ive named him el guapo :D

Hehehe he's cute. I like the name

im going for a mexican name theme you see my turbo snail is called speedy gonzalas, my 1 hermit is called el guapo and my other is his partner in crime; el gordo. Will look into nasarius and a porcelin crab. In my opinion a reef tank is far from about the fish thats why i love it way mroe than freshwater tanks. Can you imagine if someone saw a copepod in a fresh tnak theyd get out the med to kill that parasiitcle vermin :D

Very true. FW is too clinical for me with all the mechanical filtration and medications and chemicals

I'll never stop keeping my goldfish but FW tropicals  not for me.

Rhysiboy - those are Scarlet Hermits. :good: Red legs are different in appearance.

I agree with both statements. There is a thread in the freshwater section in which someone finds a leech on one of their plants and freaks right out. I also don't see how anyone could possibly go for like 15 years without even trying marine - talk about a static lifestyle.
