Hi the scallop i bought a few days ago has disappeared do the buired them selfs in the sand or can the climb onto rock?
please help.

A lot of people report scallops disappearing in their tank...I think even this forums moderator had the same thing occur. They just dont make good "pets." It is likely that it has buried itself in the substrate, it could have also found its way into a rock...scallops can also move fairly quickly for mollusks, he may just be running from you :p

ha ha thanks, least it only cost 4 quid not 40 otherwise i would be digging the git up as for it now i will probably hever see it again!

I had the same deal with a cleaner clam once...I would dig him up every so often to watch him bury himself again. They only lived for about a year though.

Just a side note... all living things, once in human care, should be given the best treatment possible. Price should not be a factor in how well one cares for something. They all deserve excellent care, not just the expensive ones.

completely agree, thats why im pissed off at my science teacher for using live fish for a science experiment and how people took them home, came back to school and asked why they died in their quart of water bowls with 4 other goldfish, she just said oh well, there only 12 cents.....

Its like saying, its ok that your son died in agony from an unkown disease three days after he was born, i mean, he didnt cost anything to make.

 great way to put it!

Just don't forget about the scallop. They HAVE to be fed. If you can't find it, you'll end up forgetting about it. And then you'll wonder why everything suddenly dies in your tank in about 3 months.

And I don't think they'll come out for feeding time like fish would.

To clarify, no. They wont come out for feeding. There in lies one of the major problems with them. The best way to feed the scallop is by target feeding...but this frightens them...you're trying to feed something that runs away from you. The best method of keeping one would be some sort of auto feeding device to do the job when you're not around. This would have to be pretty DIY.
