I was doing some aquascaping and out popped a khulli loach that i haven't seen for two years. He came out looking great ,good colour and nice and fat. Whats the longest you guys have gone without seeing a fish and then one day see them pop up in your tank?

My longest was my Raphael I had he vanished for 6-7 months. Left him to it because the more you try to make them show face the more unlikely it becomes.

2 YEARS?!

Surely you forgot about him in that much time? (I know I would.)

I am so fidgity that I can't imagine a tank being in a condition for that long without having done SOMETHING (rescape, substrate change, upgrade, etc) that would allow a fish to be missing that long!! congrats to you, you must be satisfied with your tank and have the patience of Job!!

thats the thing, i quite regulary have a move about or add/remove plants rocks and wood and never seen him before. Never changed substrate though.

Yeah i completely forgot about him.

i had 2 ghost shrimp in my tank, one escaped and was found dead 6 feet from the tank, and i didnt see the other for ages. assuming it was dead, i forgot about it. months later i was cleaning the filter out (juwel internal). i took the lid off and there he was, sat on the top sponge enjoying his own little world. safe, warm and plenty of food. i made a half arsed attempt to get him out, but he swam off to the bottom of the filter box, so i left him. last i knew he was still in there.

Are you sure it wasn't the next biggest loach that had grown in size after eating for two??

I barely ever see my BN catfish, he is very adept at hiding. It's amazing the places fish will find to hang out that make them invisible to you.

I was just looking at my old posts and came across this,

the Khulli Loach is still alive and well and just moved to my new tank, previous to this I reckon I saw him 3 times between this post and my previous post over 5 years ago, he's pretty elusive.

Wow, thats something else

Well, your khuli is sure doing ok even if he's elusive. Wonder if a night camera or something like that on your tank and see if he pops out during the night, reckon thats when he stretches himself

I had a 75 gallon planted tank with at least 70-80 creatures a couple years back and when the tank is that big, being overrun with plants and your biggest fish is are danios and cory's, it is surprisingly easy to lose track of what fish you have.

I have one similar every now and again I find him in the sump and put him back in main tank only to see him weeks later in the sump again

I have an elusive khuli as well. Somehow he hitchhiked his way into my cichlid tank (convicts and a salvini) and I thought they ate him. Months later he reappeared and is huge and fat. They don't even mind him. He can forage right under the salvini who could probably eat him it he wanted to and they just ignore him

Hahaha That's great. I once emptied a tank. Draining the last water suddenly I saw gravel moving and a long lost kuhli appeared hahaha.
Thought it died years before !!!
