Hi all

Well I've decided I'm going to getvery over ambitious and I want to walk huge distances!

Now its been about 10 years or more since I've done any "big walks" and back in those days topping 20 miles in a day was a big challenge but now I've decided to really up the ante in order to acheive my current target of walking from Edinburgh Castle to Buckingham Palace which is a huge
396 miles!

so yesterday as a test run/warm up I decided to walk the Union Canal it runs from Falkirk wheel to Edinburgh its a total of 33 miles with an additional 2 mile walk in the first place to get from the train station to the Falkirk Wheel.

So heres the wheel and me at the beginning.

And the route I had to walk from the very left where it says you are here to the extreme right of the Lochrin Basin

I was sore as hell by the end of it and I'm suffering a bit today but it was really enjoyable and a good way to spend my day

I'm planning on doing this again soon for charity but I'm going to try to get a few people from work to come along ... and I'm going to invest in some good walking boots!

I plan on walking the 50 mile walk from St Andrews (Famous for its golf course and uni) to Edinburgh after that then following that I'll do the full east to west canal ... then it'll be the biggy of Edinburgh to London!

Cheers for looking

Robert

P.S. we really should have a general chit chat section

you walked 33 miles in a day? you're a nut :)
some nice pictures tho and we do need a general chat section.
Sorry for calling you a nut, but sh-it your crazy for wanting to walk 33 miles. I struggle to cycle that far these days. You must be fit.
So how many days is the big 396mile walk going to take you?

you're still a nut :)

Lol yes I know

I plan to do a few more walks before the big walk including walking the full canal from west to east thats a full 67 mile walk over two days, then I plan to do the West Highland Way thats 95 miles through the highlands over about three days ... then the Edinburgh Castle to Buckingham palace walk would be over 14 days I reckon with two days rest spattered about trhose 14 days.

This walk took me 10 hours 15 minutes including about 1 hours break.

I just really enjoy the challenge of it all to be honest ... and I'm a nut!

at least your a fit nut :)

you are a bit like David Caradine in Kung Fu. Walking from one place to another contemplating and reflecting on life.
Welcome Grasshopper.

I like your challenge> I once walked 18 miles to Newcastle one morning via the coast of Tynemouth and my soles on trainers were burning! (Got the bus back)

+A few years back me a few mates went to the Cairngorms and that was one hell of a trek> we scaled to the top and back twice in two days and there were blizzards at the top!
We got down by sliding on our 'bivvy bags' down the Ski-runs, as they were closed to Skiers for the weather.

The views up there are magnifique! (On the 2nd day it was clear blue sky and we got sunburnt!)

Good look with your journey :good:

P.s; Edinburgh is a quality place...Fopp music shops, KingTutsWahWah hut, Arthurs Seat, Royal Mile, Squirrels...Love it.

Lol at the bivvy bags!

Edinburgh does rock like I moved here 4 years ago from Manchester and its the best thing I've ever done!

I can't wait to do the West Highland Way its supposed to be a hell of a challenge but really good fun, plus the campings always a laugh!

Quite a challenge> A mate went to Australia for 6months and he tried to walk one day for about 10miles in heat...he eventually hitchhiked to get to next destination..he stopped in huts on beach for 10dollars and dodged various dangerous insects.

Robert> Aye, the bivvy-bags saved us a fair bit of time and was great fun!

Been to Manchester for various gigs, we stayed at a 10pound a night backbackers place just off centre.

Went to see OASIS at the Appollo (2002) and it was a cracking gig> Jonny Marr and R.Ashcroft were there.
>As we opened our Taxi door, we were swamped by Touts however, and our security consisted of having the tickets hidden in our socks!

Edinburgh is far better in my view..
