It's the newbie agian ..
got RO water in my tank about 2 weeks ago .. all fine
put 7.7kg of live rock in a week and a half ...water was a bit cloudy . but cleared
put live sand in 4 days ago .. the water is that cloudy that i can't see my rocks (zero vis).
so today i have taken 50% of the water out into buckets along with the live rock ???

now don't know what to do.

any help please

Hi Buddy.. i had purchased a filter and was only using the head to ciculate .. have now fiter the filter part back on .. fingers crossed

thanks :good:

It can take a while if you havent washed the sand! Mine took 3 or 4 days on my last to fully clear and id rinsed mine!

Wont affect your cycle. May affect some tests though.

Question....you were using a small filter for flow? is that it? As you should aim for around 20x the tank volume in water flow

i have a wave generator 300L per hour and had purchased a small filter for the head unit so there were no dead spots for circulation. at the moment i have left the wave generator off till the tank settles ??

the tank is only 34L

cheers

right guys here are my stats

SG - 1.021
CAL - 500
NITRITE no2 - 1.0
nh3 /nh4 ammonia - 0
PH - 7,7

What do you think .. I think it's not to bad .. except the cal reading 500 . thats seems high to me .

the tank has been running about 2and a half weeks now . its 34L with live sand and 7.7kg of live rock .

oooh and i seem to be getting what looks like red ish algie growing on the glass ????

if its a reef tank the sg needs to be 1.025/26
my cal is at 400 and got told
it was ok the ammonia seems to be ok
as for the ph mine is just a little
bit higher than yours at 8

Thanks Bifster :good: .. my tank is still on the cycle ..i think.????. don't know how to change my calcium .. but will add a little salt and bring up the SG..
MY TANK IS CLEARING WELL .. I AM USING A SMALL 1/2" PAINT BRUSH TO GET THE SAND OFF MY ROCK .. i have red ish growth on my rocks looks like some kind of coral???

it's amazing how engrossed you get watching rock ...

All is fine, what is your nitrate reading?

Calcium at 500 is fine (actually good), but am wondering how it is that high with an sg of 1.021, what salt are you using?

If you are getting red algae on your rocks it sounds like your phosphates might be high, have you got a test? Try moving ypur powerheads to get more flow to the area

Seffie x

Hi Seffie .. the salt is KENT SEA MIX .from Maidstone Aquatics , they have a shop in Scotland .. Still waiting for other test kits to be delivered. It may take a few months the way the snow is dropping. The snow at my car is just over 3 feet.. so postie will be having many days off.

The red algie is on the front glass.. But it looks like a red coral type thing .. on the rocks .. ?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
I'm probably wrong again .. the salty stuff is mind boggling..
