Sand Or Gravel

I have got gravel at the moment but i think sand looks better but i have been told the darker the substrates the better the fish look, so does sand reduce the colour of the fish?

you can get black sand aswell

but imho, if you have a neon tetra against a black background/substrate it would stand out more; whereas with white sand then it wouldn't stand out as much. But i would go with the normal color sand, more natural
