i am gonna get 4 clown loaches and i would prefer to have sand in my aquarium instead of gravel but i was wondering if this would increase the chance of my fish getting diseases as the excrement would lie on top of the sand instead of falling between the gravel ? white spot is my main concern

I would go with sand as it is easier to clean, just because you can see the waste on top. I wouldn't matter if the waste is under the grvel or on top, its still in the tank. So actually you can get either or, just sand is my personal opinion.

i believe gravel is WAY easier to clean than sand...you must have an easy way of doing it.

i absolutely LOVE sand and i think all tanks should have it

i have recently found an "easier" way to clean sand. if you have a gravel vac/siphon...rubberband a 2-3 inch wooden dowel to the intake so it sticks out in front of it. when you go to syphon the sand, instead of sucking up the sand too...you just irritate the surface with the dowel and the lighter pieces of sand and poo go through the syphon.

go sand buddy! it looks very beautiful and can compliment certain fishes and plants

what type of sand do you use in your fishtank at the moment i have slate in my tank but like the look of sand.

Increase in disease due to sand? Never heard of it, just keep the sand clean if it bothers you :)

I use argos play sand as it looks perfect and is ridiculously cheap - best option imo for UK people.

it wont make a difference to disease. I see your extremely worried about white spot and clownloach? To be honest i wouldnt worry to much, I have 4 in my tank and they have been fine, i once had a break out of white spot though from buying fish from P@H (stupidly!!!) and they were fine, had about 3 spots on one and 1 or 2 on the other, the other 2 didnt even get it. I also didnt treat the tank for it, just left it running as normal and they shook it off (none of the fish died from it either)

if i got argos play sand will i have to clean the sand before putting it in fishtank.
