After a few hours of cleaning, moving, escavating, and remodeling my ten gallon has been switched to a sand substrate. I'm really happy about it! It looks really nice, and the fish seem o.k. with it. Especially my white cheeked goby. He's been digging and spitting out sand since he got in there. And the cichlids are also digging and rearranging.

All and all...it's going well...I'm a sand believer!! :hyper:

Whey hey! Congratulations on the change. Do you fancy doing my 60 gallon?

Congrats!!

Have you been able to put the fish in straight away? I have been considering it for my 35UK and 16UK as I really like the look of my 71UK and think it's more natural for the fish. It would be good for the corys in the 16UK and brilliant for the goldies in the 35UK as one of them gets gravel stuck in his mouth every once in a while.

I waited about 30 minutes before putting my fish back in...just to give it plenty of time to settle back down. I washed the sand quite awhile ( probably an hour all together)

Also (just a tip if anyone wants it), when I was satisfied with cleaning the sand, I did a test "clean" before putting it in the tank, to be sure the sand wouldn't get sucked into the gravel cleaner. I just put some frozen bloodworms in the bucket, and sucked them up. Even when I put the gravel cleaner directly on the sand, it didn't suck that much up.
