hey

i just put some sand in my tank and its been about 7 hours and it is still a bit foggy.

how long will it take for the fog to go and will it effect the fish??

i have just bought 4 new phantom and neon tetras:)

Did you wash it first? Did you just drop it into the water?

When we put sand in our tank we washed it and then put it in wet, then filled up with water and it was clear almost immediately.

Depending on the type of sand you used it could take anywhere from 24hrs to a week HTH :D

In my experince the sand took about 5-6 hours to settle. That was with play sand and Tahitiin Moon black sand.

I added my playsand before water and have tried stirring it up but have never had cloudeing problems

I have to admit that I messed up when I put play sand in my 55-gallon over a week ago. Apparently I didn't rinse it well enough and my water is still cloudy. I regret doing it now. I have african cichlids so I wanted to give them as natural of an enviroment as possible. More than likely, I'm going to the LFS this weekend and buy the proper sand for it. It's going to be a chore getting the old sand out though. I hope I don't stress my fish out too much by doing this change again.

I also thought about taking the tank into the backyard (after putting the fish into the hospital tank of course) and rinsing the sand with the water hose until it's crystal clear. It may take a while but I'll see if that will work because I really like the way the brown sand looks.

Good luck and I hope your water clears up soon :)
