i'm getting a 55g, it comes with filter, heater, everything. i am still going to use the filter, btui also am going to add the berlin system too. i figure i want the water as good as it can possibly get. so i am looking for a cheap protien skimmer to get after i got the tank. i'm currently $146 away from the tank, but i am working alot this weekend. i just want to know if i should get the following or look for something else.

If you want the water quality to be as good as posible then i urge you to not use the filter as this wll increase nitrates in your system.
Keep it simple and add more liverock :good:

Navarre,
I'm a newby so I really need to ask. How will the protien skimmer increase the nitrates. I am in the planning stages of a salt water fish only tank and was thinking about a skimmer too.

Thanks!

No, no a skimmer wont increase nitrates, in fact it wil help remove nutrient before they can be used in the nitrogen cycle.

You say "filter" I Assume you mean a mechanical filter. A skimmer is not a filter.
