I had bought a Salintity tester, the one with the waving dials..
one cost me £20 and the other was £8

The one i 1st bought that was £20, i brought the salinity level with that..
but i lost it when i gave marines up. and then i bought another that cost £8 and started again around 6-8 months later. Different make... Anyways i brought the new setup up to the correct salinity level, and the i found the old one that was £20 and now i find that the have different readings. The difference is .5 and with this being alot, not just a nudge im now worried as the corels have began to close up. now i really do not know whisch one is correct. is there another way to test the salt level? and that is close to 100% proficcient?

thx in advance

What is you reading at the moment
:D

In my opinion Stable Sg & Temp are the more important factor (no random fluctuations)

Have a look at this product as well Digital Salinity & Temperature Meter -

macpegg..be careful with terms. Salinity and specific gravity are different. Salinity does not vary with temp and specific gravity does. I would recommend a refractometer if possible also.....even a floating hydrometer would be better IMO than a plastic one. SH

Sorry I havent posted earlier I have been having intermitted problems with my Web connection (I have tried to post this responce 6 times - 7 if this time doesnt work)

1st you need to do is establish the true sg level of your tank (will your LFS measure for you, if he is close by) or can you borrow a refractometer or even an other Hydrometer

There is a massive difference between the reading, I am hoping that the second reading is closer to the truth.

Also remember that stability is more important than a text book reading (as long as the reading isnt 1.03)

How are your livestock looking, feeding etc.

The pulsing xiena is is doing great, the sponges are closed up quite constantly, i have this pink/peach branchy thing (cant remeber the name ) thats always closed up. and this night coral ( not sun coral ) does`nt come out at nite. it did once but since then it has`nt and that was 3 weeks ago. i can only guess it is because the salinity is too high.
