Salt in aqariums

I have been adding the recomended amount of salt for a tetra and guppy tank but have been adding the salt all at one dose (no salt was in before). So far there have been no problems but I have been reading other messages on salt and am wondering if I am adding it wrong. How should I go about adding salt?

It's best to add salt gradually so that there is no shock to the fish.

The best way to use salt is carefully. Remember to account for evaporation, as salt doesn't evaporate and salinity can rise to undesirable levels easily enough.
