Salt Cubes?

I was at my LFS the other day and amongst all the co2 equipment they had a small bag with around 10 salt cubes in. At the time i wasn't curious enough to ask what there for and what they do, but now im sat thinking about it i really want to no. i have tried searching and cant find anything similar or anything about them, they were literally white cubes in a clear bag with a sticker on saying 'salt cubes' no brand name or anything.

surly then they would be kept with marine stuff and not with tropical stuff??
