Well, I have been giving my betta salt baths, due to what I think is fin/tail rot. But i'm not quite sure how much salt i should add to say 1 gallon of water.

Marine or aquarium? I'd go for the marine at about 1/8th teaspoon for about a coffee cup of water. Change the water for every fish. I'm using it for Ich. I've already seen improvements. Aquarium salt should have instructions right on the package. I think it's a tablespoon per gallon, but don't quote me on it. Anywho, off to another salt dip for my girlies!

Please do be careful with salt baths.
They're pretty stressful on fish - especially sick ones.

They can be very therapeutic though, but watch for signs of stress very closely.

Thanks both of you, the salt I am using is normal aquarium salt, 1 tbs per gallon of water was what I was using.

Bettamom, Ive been giving my guy salt baths like this for the last three days, and he loves them, as a matter of fact he is happily working on a bubble nest right now. But i appreciate your concern.

Salt is ok, but do you mean a salt dip?? Or are you just keeping the salt in the water all the time? I'm using marine salt dips to treat my girls' Ich at the moment, and it works great. Aquarium salt should work good for fin rot, though. Good job!
