Salt baths

Can anyone instruct me on how to do a salt bath?
I have a Green Severum that I recently purchased with some damage from being nipped by tank mates. I don't want to treat the whole tank with Melafix if I can avoid it, but would like to do something to help the healing process along.

You wouldn't want to use a saltwater dip for frayed or nipped fins. That is used more for getting rid of a bad parasite problem.

Just how bad are the fins nipped? The fins will grow back in a week or so without any meds, but Melafix will help if you want to use it.

I would just keep the water clean and you should see an improvement in a few days.

Its actually helthier for you fish's fins to heal naturally.

Well, its not on his fins, its on the side of his head. I've done one 20% water change so far. How often should I change the water to help it from getting infected?
