Ok so I need to give my little Breezer a salt bath, which Ive never ever done. So before I rush out, buy all the wrong things, and kill him I have a few questions for you amazing people

1) Is there a certain kind of salt I should look for?

2) Should I take my beta out of his tank while I add the salts and such?

3) Is it ok for me to mix the salts with the Aquarisol I will also need to add?

4) How effective will this really be on his ick?

Please feel free to add anything else. I just want my first experiance to be a good one and learn as much as possible. I have my eye on a couple more cuties but refuse to get more till I can care for them properly. :*

Thank you in advance! :D

Hi

I left this link for somebody a few days back. I'm in a real rush so sorry can't answer your post properly

Here's the link, hope its useful for you

Salt treatment

Oh thank you so much. :D

I didnt see ick listed as one of the things it was good for so Im still not sure on that.

I've never used aquarisol so not sure what that is but unless its salt based then using salt shouldn't effect any medications. Please correct me if I'm wrong anyone

I personally feel you will need an ick treatment as well as using the salt. I've had it in my big tank for 4 weeks and I've only just won the battle using Interpet no. 6 ick meds. I couldn't use salt as I had plecs in there.

The salt bath does help relieve the fish and I found it very effect when I bathed my female bettas and found that they got over the disease within 2 weeks but I also used ick meds with it.

Hope Breezer is feeling better soon :)

1) Is there a certain kind of salt I should look for? You should be using "Aquarium Salt" ONLY.  You can get it at a pet store or any store that sells fish supplies

2) Should I take my beta out of his tank while I add the salts and such? Yes and No.  Yes, You should mix up your salt DIP in atleast a 1 gallon container and then you put him in a smaller one if you like..so that you have some left for another time (it will just need heating up..you can sit the container in a larger container with some hot water to warm).  Or you can just put him in the gallon container, whichever you prefer..it's cheaper to do it the other way though.  No, you should leave him in his tank to give him a BATH...unless he is in with a Pleco or Catfish...then you'll want to put him in his own place until treatment is finished.

3) Is it ok for me to mix the salts with the Aquarisol I will also need to add? When doing the DIP just use salt and water decholorifier.  If you are going to do a BATH, then yes you can add Aquarisol with the salt..since he will be living in the BATH for an extended time.

4) How effective will this really be on his ick? Aquarisol is awesome for treating ICK, so if you follow the instructions, follow thru with the recommended treatment schedule, raise the temp to 85*, and do faithful water changes...you should see great results.
Please feel free to add anything else. I just want my first experiance to be a good one and learn as much as possible. I have my eye on a couple more cuties but refuse to get more till I can care for them properly.  :*

Just remember to correctly measure out your Salt with your DIP and BATH.

Dip - 4 TBSP (tablespoon) Salt to 1 gallon water (for up to 30 minutes twice a day...this all depends on the indiviudal fish though, on how long they can stand a bath at a time or duplicates in a day..just watch them the entire time for any stress...you see stress or them being too still..take them out Immediantly)
Bath - 1 TBSP to 1 gallon water
