What do you think? They carry this disease which is a risk to pregnant women, and babies/children up to 5. I have a 4 month old.
I had leopard geckos and whites tree frogs in the beginning of pregnancy, found out this, panicked and sold them.

I really really really want a bearded dragon or something, but how big do you think this risk is?

Obviously I would wash my hands after handling/feeding so it isnt like Im going to feed one then feed the other without cleaning.
I would even get antibacterial hand gel and use that after washing my hands.

Anyone have any advice?

You can only get salmonella from actually touching the poo and putting it in you mouth, so it can be dangerous for children.I have a special antibacterial thing for reptiles which you rub into your hands after handling them.Exactly like they have around zoo's.Some reptiles don't even have salmonella! You are much more likely to get it from uncooked chicken or raw eggs I would think.

That is true, you are more likely to get it elsewhere then from a reptile. Of course keeping the cage clean helps combat the risk, as like mentioned you can only obtain salmonella through their feces, not being bit or scratched... but an unclean cage leads to lizards basking and walking through their poop, which in turn can land on your hands because of handling. (Although I believe I read that it can only survive for 24 hours on a surface) but using clorox bleach wipes and wiping down any doorknobs, handles, faucets that you come in contact with on the way to washing your hands. The best method is hot water and soap... not just hand sanitizer.
