Salinity

33-35ppt, 1.023-1.026sg for most reef setups. Fish only ones can do ok down to like 31ppt or 1.019sg

Yes but keep a eye on it in a small tank as it will rise rapidly with evaporation.

thanks, and it should ust be topped up with ro water and not ro salted water??

That is correct, top-up with RO not salt water. Are you using a refractometer or swing are hydrometer?? Anyone know good quality refractometer that they would recommend? I think my swing arm is on the way out so refractometer are a more precise means to an end :good: .....
It is really interesting that everyone goes on about topping up but in all the time mine has been running I have not had to top-up once! It just goes to show the difference a tight fitting lid can make on evaporation.

hi i use a refractometer

I got a great refractometer off ebay for $35. He sells all over the world and has great reputation as power seller. Maybe something to look at :)

That was $35 including shipping.

I've heard swing arms can really suck. There are more variables. If you drop it it'll mess w/the arm. They get notoriously inaccurate over time. At least you can recalibrate a refractometer if you should need to.
