anyone know anything about salamanders?
i can't find any good info on a jet black, spotted grey bellied salamander with a bright yellow stripe down his back!

what is he?
i was told he was rare (i'm from canada eh' near vancouver)
i found him in a puddle of greace at a "budget brake and muffler" about 10 years ago and nursed him to health, then put him in a 10 gallon with mud and a home made puddle  and some leafy branches.
i dunno much about anphibian type things but i seam to have good luck keeping then alive!
i fed the little guy worms, and crickets and he lived for 5 years till my dad left him outside overnight and he turned white, which scared me and made me feal guilty for keeping him (i should have let him go after i nursed him back to health) so i let him free
now i remember how much he loved me
the day i let him go he followed me up a small hill going back to the car so i had to jog away
i miss him so much :-(

sorry to be long winded but was there anything i missed caring for him?
and was he rare?

i just watched an old video tape of him and i want another one!

here is my baby!
i found out what he was
a long toed salamander!
he looks like this but his colours were much prettier
he had a jet black body, yellow speckled tummy and a brilliantly bright yellow stripe!

my questions still stand though
thanx in advance for your answers! :D

very cool story, nothing i can think of. I used to read about amphibians a lot when i was younger and can't think of anything you missed, mud probally wasn't necesary but if they liked it, good. they like live food probally eat anything they can get (if live),just things i remember :dunno:
