Any idea why a sailfin tang wont eat nori? I've soaked it in garlic and entice and still it remains invisible to the tang

Thought the sailfin loves this stuff? The tang is in great shape so not worried just baffled :S

strange thing ive noticed some tangs wont eat nori, in particular clown tangs and sailfins actually. yellows and regals tear the stuff apart, sailfins seem more content to eat algae off rocks though ....

on a side note what type of sailfin is it?

Hi mate... Thanks for that, the blenny dont touch it either!

This is the tang (when I first bought it)

its mini! did you buy it as an indo or a pacific sailfin, its hard to tell untill there older if you dont know. im after a desjardins same as an indo i believe so your have to keep me updated on the progress!

least your get a nice surprise when it grows up they look to similar as young uns

Cheers mate although I think there may have been an error when buying. When I asked them how big they grow I'm sure the LFS said 14cm when infact its 40cm - probably my hearing.

The tank is not big enough to house is as an adult so more reason to buy a large tank :good:

yeh 40cm hard to beleive something so mini gets so big! you can do what im doing nice custom built 5footer and turn the rio180 into a sump :D

 Will do sometime, as soon as work stabilises a bit - everyone being made redundant :(

o dear :( hope all is fine soon then!!!

figured out today how much a upgrade will cost .... i cringed.

well how many times is a big sheet of dried seaweed thats full of the scent of garlic dropped into the ocean... not many i dont think. Keep trying i guess.

 - You are quite correct!

The garlic scent drives my fish crazy... There is no issue, the tang is very happy picking bits off the live rock and I've let the back glass pane cover in algae which is loves (as does the blenny)

though the same can be said in a tropical set up ... how often do you see peas and cucumbers floating down streams or lakes, yet fish love the stuff!!

how many times do flake food, pellet food or frozen dead shrimp get dropped in the ocean either then?

sophos9, does he pick at bits off the live rock, as he is probably getting some algae to munch on off there, maybe as he grows and requires a greater food intake he will start to show interest in nori sheets so dont rule them out completely

so if a tang is eating bits off of live rock, is that enough for it?
i put strips if seaweed on a clip on the side of the tank and it wont go near it.
i have to drop little bits of seaweed in that float around the tank, sometimes it eats them and other times 2 or 3 bits will go past the tang and it wont take any notice,as it doesnt take any notice of any frozen food that is put in tehe tank for the other fish.
take it this is normal behavoiur, and if it was hungry it would eat more of the seaweed that i put in??
