Just checking before I put it out my head, my LFS has some nice sized sailfins rather than the 1 inch bristlenoses he has in so wondering if a sailfin would be good for my 25gallon.

i think I found them and they grew to 14" odd if thats the case I'll forget about it otherwise they look great!!

cheers.

They can grow bigger than 14"! Mine is currently about 16"

I'd give them a miss

Nope a sailfin cannot live in a 25gallon. They need far more space than a 25gallon can provide.

They can get alot bigger than 14", fish in the wild can reach 24" and 18-20" in captivity isn't to uncommon, they grow at an incredible rate when given correct conditions and feeding, also producing alot of waste matter, so a tank would require very efficent filtration. :) The bristlenose is a far better option.

Hmmm quite monsterous. tis justa nnoying that I'll be buying this tiny b'noses!! how fast will they grow?

Bristlenose grow quite quick, but when they get to about 2.5" -3" they completly slow down. But they still grow

whats the min recomended tank size for a sailfin plec, as I'm after my "show piece" tank and really like them so ideally i'll get a tank to match the fish :)
