Hi,

I come with bad news... :-( As some of you know I#m been trying to spawn and raise my bronze corydoras, and I was about to have a 3rd spawning, as the female was SO plump with eggs again. To my horror I came home yesterday from work to find the male on his side gasping, little to say he later passed on (R.I.P)
I then awole to find the female also dead. :-(
The Female has like a mucus on here, a brown slime, I don't know if this was from the fish itself as it looked like it had died early in the night.
Its SO annoying as I had plans for those two, I'd had them since they were about 1/2 inch long, its so strange to, as none of the other fish they have lived with for the past 12 months have died, and it seems strange it was just those two...

looks like I'm gonna have to go to the not-so-LFS and purchase a new couple, but I doubt I'll get a male and a female this time, its just too hard to tell when they are small :/

Just thinking about it now, it maybe this freak hot weather were having in the uk, the tanks have risen in temp buy a few degrees, could it have been that? as bronze cories like lower temps, I still have a Trilineatus and a 'possible' hybrid cory left doing very well, although the Trilineatus hasn't grown in the 7 months I've had him. he is SO small

/me goes to set about the funeral services for his fish, they get more expensive every year, they want music and flowers and jeez!! their own plot in the toilet... (joke)

:rip: Sorry to hear that. It's always a blow when you loose otherwise healthy breeding fish.

What size tank did you have them in? What other tank mates? Were you medicating the tank with anything? Or using salt? It's worrying, since bronzes are supposed to be very hardy of the corys. Did you add any new fish? What are your water stats?

Keep well, and sorry again
Carmen :D

thats the thing, the tank was fine, all paramaters were great, I didn't add any new comers, it was 15gallon tank. and NO salt, I wouldn't add salt, as most fish are intolerant, and no medication. Its SO bizzarre.

Our breeding cories are in a 50 gal and our tank temp went up to 28 C from 26 C yesterday with the weather being so warm. None of the fish seemed to suffer, and the pandas even spawned. My hubby did a 40% water change to simulate a summer night rain storm.

But it does sound like a complete mystery, very sorry to hear about it.

/me strikes the desk with his fist and cries like a small child...

well looks like I have to splash out some cash and get some new ones :D

I gotta ring the not-so-lfs and see if they'll take a 5" black shark of my hands as he has become a menace in my 31gal tank, (yeah I know the tank too small for him, in the future) and hopefully I'll egt some store credit for him. that'll help pay for the new cories and maybe something else woohoo! lol

:D

Good luck with that. Hopefully you find a nice breeding pair. :good: Let us know how it goes, and if you find something else.

Keep well, Carmen :D

Well I took the B.Shark back, and well sadly to say I didn't pick up another pair of cories, I bought a female polyterus senegalus to go with my male, as I had a space in that tank :D

I will be buying a pair of cories soon though, maybe towards the end of the month. I want to try and keep my eye out for a larger pair, as the not-so-lfs only have babies in, they did have some large pandas in, but I heard they were harder to breed?

Hi ?tudz

I'm sorry to learn about your corys. :byebye:

This kind of weather is not good for corys and a particular form of bacterial infection, called columnaris, often attacks them. It can be deadly and can act quickly, often before symptoms develop. Be sure to keep your water temperature from fluctuating too much and keep the nitrates as low as possible to help prevent it.

Pandas are not hard to get to spawn, but they do need clean and stable tank conditions, even more so than most of the other corys you will find. Be sure they look very healthy in the lfs or pass them by. It seems to me that they do not adjust well to a change in waters, especially where pH is concerned, so if you can get any locally raised ones they will be your best bet.

Good luck!
