Hello,

My new little collomesus is now eating fine on blood worms! Thanks for all your help. However, I'm a little worried about his behaviour...

He seems to spend all day swimming up and down ferociously, often against the glass - it looks like hes attacking his reflection! Ive got a couple of large rocks which make a cave, a piece of driftwood, a couple of large shells, and the tank is planted round the edges with gravel substrate - so theres definately stuff in there for him to hide in / play with. Sometimes he does just cruise round near the bottom of the tank, but Ive never seen him settle down anywhere or sleep! Are they supposed to be this hectic, or is he stressed out?

Any collomesus puffer advice greatly appreciated!

I worried about exactly the same thing when I first got mine, they still do it on occasion now so I wouldn't worry too much about the glass thing. They're pretty much always on the move although they do calm down once the lights are out, give him a few days to settle in and go from there :D

I have exactly the same experience. Mine still goes up and down the glass and plays in the current from the filter quite a bit and I've had him for over a year. The only times he seems calm is right after eating and after the tank light goes off.

My GSP's love the Powerhead, they always go in it and flip while the current shoots them across the tank. My new GSP would not eat for a couple hour, and it would go up and down the tank rapidly, sometimes backing off or changing spots because Cosmo (my fat GSP) would chase him... It stopped doing it after I plugged the Powerhead in, and now it just loves swimming against the current.. I'm so happy!

The cause of swimming against the tank walls is often boredom why not rearange the tank and add a few more plants, caves and tunnles for him/her to swim through. Also Puffers love to swim through the current.
