Wow. After deciding to go the new world cichlid way after finding that i cant get any african catfish near me what do i see in my LFS tank today? Syno Eupterous. Less than an inch and perfectly healthy. Can i keep one of these beauties in my New world tank.
55 gallons
-4 angelfish
-2 blue rams
- 3 pim pictus
6- aeneus cories
Im just worried about him swallowing my cories. Also dont know much about how the water conditions would work out.

Hi fishy. Well ive kept s.eupterus with corrys before and they have no problem with them. It is worth noting that all synos are territorial and that have a lowish stocking of similar looking cats is a good idea. However i have witnessed three eupterus living in harmony, a male and two females, and when territory becomes an issue i tend to find that damage only occurs if one of the catfish collides with a tank furnishings so no sharp edges!
They are a pleasure to keep, non aggressive and hardy, they may become a problem if u wish to breed your cichlids as they are known to raid nests at night time when the synos are more active.
Well hope this helps, if you need anything more specific just ask
