Rusty Looking

Hi ive had my 3 goldfish about 6 years now.1 is about 6 inch long now so about 6 months ago I got a 4 foot tank. 1 month ago a ehein 2028 pro2 filter, which is great.The water is like drinking water yet the algy on the glass and tank objects has gone a rusty colour in places.I can scrape it off.I wondered why it was so bad and what causes it? Today I got 4 of those cold water poo sucker ( rainbow somethings) so they are at work eating it.The ornaments will have to be hand cleaned.I can't understand why its so bad.........AH! just remembered.I got a new t5 light.Its on from 5pm till 12 ish.
ANYONE! I don't like addatives, but if this is the cure then so be it

Are you saying treatment is by having the light on longer? How long does it take for a tank to mature?

Prior the red rusty stuff,I thought I had green algae cos the water looked green, but that was badly lit.It still lookes like its got a tint of green,yet if I get a cup full out of the tank its clear as drinking water.So I guess its on the glass

Unfortunately there isn't really a "cure" for algae on the glass. Get yourself an algae scraper and start scraping (I know, it's a pain in the @ss haha!)

I have now got 4 rainbow....somethings.They are like pleques.(cant spell there names) anyway, they are doing a lovely job of cleaning the glass
