Do you have to put in an airstone and run it before you add new water? What is the point of this? Thanks

airstone is not required in an aquarium at all they are for ascetic reasons only

It depends if u have live plants or how ur filter is positioned. Sometimes u dont need a airstone if u have good water movement. I think they were talkin about putting the airstone in before adding water to a new aquarium. Is this true? If not please re-word it because its confused us

You may be thinking about the traditional method of removing chlorine from tap water. Bubbling air through it drives off the chlorine.

These days most of us use dechlorinator.
