At night when I check my fish, when they are sleeping(just sitting still) their noses are not red but are faded. I haven't had fish before so is this normal?
Fish do change colour when they are 'asleep'. For example, neon tetras turn brown; dwarf pencilfish stripes change from horizontal to vertical. Members who have kept rummy noses will be able to say if this is just another example of fish changing colour at night.
I agree with others. Most fish will pale in darkness, it is part of the response to light/dark controlled by their circadian rhythm. I must confess that I have very rarely checked on my fish after total darkness, but I would expect to see a paling of colours/patterns.
