I have two rubbermaid bins in my basement that I just set up for my midas and my GT fry. I've read that the sides can break if I don't brace them with something. I was thinking out building a frame out of wood for it and putting pond liner inside. Would this stop my chances of a floud? How much does pond liner cost for a total of 4 or these 50gals?

man if your that worried about it put 1 inside another 1 and put phone books or something in the gap at the bottom, OR buy real rubbermaids, i dunno what everyones problem with them bowing is, i have done it plenty of times and mine never bent...

:D i use a rubbermaid bin for my female bettas as well, and i have the asme bowing problem as you. However, i've never braced mine wtih anything, and i couldn't figure out how to :/

Well, I had them set up for about a week and a half and a crack started forming on one side of the bin even though I had braced that side. I took them down and I'm going with a different plan. If I would have left it alone, I'm sure it would have broke over time. I'm going to take cider blocks and take a water proof tarp that can be used for pond liners and make a indoor pond with for sections instead. I got the idea off of goldfish paradise. There are pictures of a set up someone has for their koi on there. They said it's never leaked and they have had it running for 2 or 3 years.
