I have a Red Tail catfish that is about 19" long at the moment and I want to upgrade him to a 300 gallon tank. Though still being as young as I am, my savings won't allow me to buy something magnificent. So I was thinking maybe a Rubbermaid stock tank will do.

Though here are some problems.
I don't know what type of filtration system that I would have to use.
The tank would be going in my house so it may be on the second floor, would I need to put anything under it to help diverse the weight at all? Should I not fill it up completely?
I also have a little brother, who is very curious. I would need to know how to build a very strong cover for this tank. Do you guys have any ideas on what I should use or get? Or ideas on what I should do to make this Rubbermaid stock tank the best tank for my RTC.

I wouldn't put in on the second floor and what are it's dimensions? The RTC will need loads of room as an adult.

I got one of those things 6' X 4' X 2.5" (or so). Anyhow I dout you can take one up a flight of stairs then make it through a regular door opening :X . Then there is the weight factor 2600 pounds or there abouts. Unless it's re-enforced cement I wouldn't try this at home.

Some sort of wet/dry filter copmes to mind just for the sheer size of it all.

For "Curious George" there are many ways to go about it. Sheets of acrylic you can drill and then bolt on the RubberMaid or pretty much anything he can't slip in to. On mine (which is out side) has metal grate off a store fixture (they had pegs then hung whatever off it). Didn't cost me anything but you have to be at the right place at the right time :good: .

Just between me and you it'll be lots cheaper to just sell or get rid of your still little friend.

I think saint might be right eventually your going to need a swimming pool sized tank for this beast with huge filteration and heating so it might be easier and probably better for him and your bank balance to get rid of him now. He's going to get enormous.
