I bought a couple rubberlip plecos and well, they just aren't doing anything. I expected to find them skimming the sides of the aquarium or in the plants looking for algae.....instead they are just hiding, hiding, and still hiding. *sigh*

I definitely didn't buy them to look at. Will they get more productive?

Rubberlipped plecos (bulldog plecos) should really be kept by themselves. They bully other plecos. I also recently aquired one and he mostly hides too. I do think he comes out at night though. I'm sure once your new guys are used to your tank they will start exploring more.

Rubberlips are nocturnal and will generally hide during the day and be active at night. Although, as Lindsey says, once they get used to your tank, they might venture out during the day, but it's not guarenteed.

Thats what happens when you buy nocturnal fishes.

Do you have driftwood in your tank? that tends to make them more comfortable.
But like everyone else said, noctornal and new, and they tend to be pretty skittish fish to begin with. I wouldnt expect to see them out alot.

If your looking for algae eaters, i would go for a TRUE Siamese algae eater (although eventually he'll probably get too big)
Or a school of oto cats.

Oto cats? What are those? Are they aggressive? I will look into them but I want to make sure they will get along with what I have in my tank already. Thanks for the tip.

Otos are very very gentle and awesome algae eaters I have two of them along with my rubberlip and never see any algae.
