Rubber Eel

Hopefully someone out there can help us figure out what is going on with our eel. We have had him/her for nearly 3 months and it's nearly 18 inches long. I noticed last week there was a protrusion at the rear end of the eel. The protrusion started out as pretty much white in color. Now it is pink to red and quite swollen looking. He/she's behavior is pretty much the same. We have noticed some lumps, maybe three, but they're not huge lumps. The eel came out of an aquarium that was stocked with a bunch of these guys. Any ideas what we might be dealing with here? Btw- we moved the eel to it's own 10 gallon until we sort this out. He was in a our 90 gallon along with some south american cichlids. Thanks in advance for any tips or suggestions.
