i have been offered a RTBS that is about 6 inch as a mate no longer wants it and is changing his stocking around. i have set up a 6.5x2x2 tank that will contain-

2 x sun catfish
1 x siamese algae eater
1 x large oscar
1 x rotkeil severum
5 x bushfish/spotted perch
1 x L114
1 x L190

my concern is the SAE and the suncats. the SAE is about 4-5 inches and the suncats are still very small at about 2.5 inches. as the SAE is from the same family i thought htis might cause issues with chasing etc but on the other hand its quite a big tank so there will be enough room for both (i think).
the shark is currently living with cardinal tetras, silver tip tetras, black phantom tetras, corys and a large chinese algae eater in a 2ft tank which makes me believe it must be quite a gentle fish

can anyone offer any advice on this please?

I had 2 SAE with a RTBS and the RTBS chased the SAE endlessly. Then I noticed the SAEs had some injuries  . So I removed the RTBS and they SAE are much happier. I wouldn't advise you to house Rainbow Shark/RTBS with SAE because its your SAE that's gonna suffer the consequences.
Carl ;)

but what size tank were they all in together? i didnt know if i had enough room for them to get along without too much hassle

They were in a Roma 200 (200 litre)
TBH no matter how big the tank is, the shark will always be looking for the SAE and chasing them around

Also what colour is your oscar?

I disagree. Theres a big difference between 200l and a 700+L tank. There will be alot more hiding spots and in a tank that size theres enough room for them both to have there own territory so theres no need for it to pick it out and chase it.
Just my opinion.

the oscar is grey, white and black with red markings.

this is what i was thinking. maybe a bigger tank will give them more room to stay clear of each other

Maybe give it a go and if they dont get on do you have a spare tank you could separate one to until you can rehome of of them.

im closing down most of my other tanks to accomodate the new one. but i will have a rio 180 that will be used as a grow out tank for 1 of stars rotkeils and a group of bushfish.

Aswell as potential problems with the SAE, the RTBS may also have a go at your oscar as they can't usually get on with red fish(not that your oscar is red but it has red)

My RTBS is fine with other red fish (rosy barb, dwarf gourami and even my tiger barbs have orange/red fins)
I know they are nothing like an oscar, but thought i would say it anyway...

SAE loose their love of algae, as they age. they then turn into monsters, rasping on other fish.

200l is the minimum tank size for an RTBS, and is far from ideal. though small, no more than7 inches. they are territorial/aggressive, and need lots of swimming room.

dont you mean CAE? the SAE hasnt got a sucker mouth..... my tank is 6.5x2x2 so plenty big enough.

ive found another fish now anyway. so if anyone is interested in a 6 inch RTBS then i have a friend with one for sale :good:
