what kind of wood is best for them is mopanii ok or does it have to be bog wood, or "fresh" wood as in freshly cut?

I've heard lots of ideas about certain types of wood being best, but nothing convincing. Assuming that they do digest the lignin (which seems to be what the scientists are discovering) then it couldn't matter less what you give them.

My 11 year old Panaque has been chomping her way through the same giant chunk of bogwood since I bought her. She also eats other things, like cucumber and courgette, but the main thing is not to give them anything high protein. According to those that work with this genus in the lab, specimens fed animal foods develop fatty deposits around the internal organs, and these lead to an early death. So perhaps concentrate on using Spirulina and other algae-based catfish pellets rather than the usual plec foods like mussels and prawns.

Cheers,

Neale

I have bogwood and 2 very large pieces of oak and our Royal loves them. He chomps through it all day switching between the bogwood and the oak. He seems to prefer the oak though. Then, as soon as cucumber goes in he heads straight for that. He's really quite greedy! He seems more fussy with his veg than his wood!
