i want one or two plecos for my 260 litre tank
i have just seen two royal plecs at my LFS and wondering do they need any special care and are they compatible in the community aquarium, also can they be kept with corys
thanks

Royal plecs are territorial and should be the only plec in the tank so two isnt a good idea. Their only special requirement is that they have some real bogwood (not mopani) in the tank to rasp on as the lignum forms a lare percentage of their diet, this wood should be replaced or added to every 6 months or so to ensure there is enough.

really? in this thread, everyone has said to mix a gold-spot and a royal in 7ft tank. is that good or bad advice?

a 7 foot tank is a bit different to the average size home aquarium  keeping multiple plecs including a royal shouldnt be a problem in a 7 foot tank.

I keep a royal plec with cories and whiptails and zebra loaches and flying foxes (and other community fish, just listed bottom feeders I have though). Just a question (so sorry to hijack thread...) I'm getting a 100gal on wednesday and combining my two community tanks into one. That means the royal will be with 2 BNs and an L200. Is this ok?? My royal is very placid and stays in her pot most of the time, coming out at night, but going back to the pot if anything 'scary' in the room happens.

Royals are very territorial and can inflict a surprising amount of damage. In a big tank like that I'm sure it might possible, but be careful and keep a close eye on things. I haven't kept one with other plecos, but recently I completely re-arranged my 75 gallon in which my 6" royal's been living mostly peacefuly with an 8" nicaragua cichlid for a long time. They started fighting over the tank for the first time since I've had them together and it only escalated - the nic was on the losing end of that one and the royal's now enjoying life in the oscar tank.

Just remember, Royals get over a foot long and get really fat! As said they can inflict a lot of damage if they become terratorial so don't go for 2 in a 260L tank.

I would however have thought you could have other plecs in there as long as you have LOTS of hiding places (bogwood or a large cave formation of slate or something) and as long as they are introduced at the same time, or the other plec (not the royal) is introduced first.
