I would consider a 'Royal' to be L190, all of the L27 group and L191 so you are looking at 16-17 inches for the smallest when fully grown.

Bear in mind that they grow very slowly, about an inch a year ime.

Filtration needs to be more than for you average fish, they 5hit for Britain and produce sawdust.

Not suitable tank mates that have a high protein intake, wood in the tank is essential.
 
For a fully grown one, 5x2x2 perhaps?

However, I can say with certainty that you won't be buying a Royal that large, availability and cost restricts them to aficionados.

All depends on what size you buy it at and what your future plans are.

A 3 inch juvi would take approx 9 years to reach a foot given optimal conditions so you have a touch longer to think about things than nooby mc nooberson who has just dropped a gibby into their 100l with goldfish and a plastic castle.
