I have been looking for some cories and I don't want to get ripped off for it.

Robinae - $11 ea, I said hell no.
Similis - ?
Gossei - ?
Black - ?

I've been looking for these fish, when i see them, they are quite expensive, what is resonable for them? Just for comparison..

I got 9 sterbais for # 36 ($4 each)
I got 15 1 inch peppered cories $1.50 each

I assume you are talking Canadian dollars and not usd.

All those are expensive fish.

I would not expect to get blacks for less than $15 usd for pre juvies less than an inch w/o the tail. For sexable adults more like $25 usd. gossei are also high. I think more than $10 usd. I got some last year and I see the price has gone up.

If your sterbai were quality young adults or juvie adults you did well. It is not uncommon to find them at $7 in the lps and the same from a supplier of quality wild caught.

We were just discussing the purchase of blacks in the States on Dorkhedoes "where can I get?" thread with Frank who sells them on AB as the breeder.

You can wait and hope a breeder offloads some at the lps, but right now I don't expect the prices to go down. Shipping is going up. So the price of everything is skyrocketing with the cost of oil.

Most likely your best bet is to find a good Cory club.

Robinae - $11 ea. All guestimates depending on size and quality - but, that's not out of line.

Similis - ? $6 to $8

Gossei - ? $10 - $15

Black - ? I get $15 to $25 from juvies to young adults, $35 to $50 for mature adults.

A fish is only worth what you are willing to pay for it. If I want a fish, I by it. If I don't buy it because of the price, I didn't really want it. I have never not bought a Cory, because the price was to high. You're talking to the guy who paid $100 USD EACH, for some of the first C. weitzmani available in the U.S.. Had I said NO because of the price I would not have had the opportunity to be the second person in the hobby to ever spawn them.

In this hobby you can't have champagne taste if you're only willing to spend beer money. :hyper:

Kevin, I would say that with the prices you got on the sterbai and peppereds, you have used up most of your good luck for a while. I've never seen a sterbai for less than about $7 and even paleatus will fetch at least $3 at the LFS. Even though the canadian dollar has moved up a little against the american, they are still about on a par and those are good prices. I'm closer to Coryologist in what I think a cory will command in the market. They are worth every penny if its what you really want and worth nothing if its not.

Where the heck did you get sterbais for $4 each? I just saw some beauties today for $9.99. They were quite dark and the orange on the fins was very bright. The only place I've ever seen paleatus for $1.50 was on clear out at the Kennedy Commons Pet Smart. As for the other prices, if you want em and they look healthy then buy em.

Thanks guys, now i have a good idea on what to expect and whats a good deal when I see one :hyper:

I will be looking at some similis to add to my tank.

The robinaes i saw must have got in the store by mistake, because there were only 2, I would have only gotten it if it was REALLY reasonable since its not even a school and they are probably not that happy.

BTW how much do arcuatus go for?

Cory_dad, I was at the 2nd floor pet store in market village. I know the owner and he special ordered it for me.

Oh and coryologist.... respects!
