I got some plants for an experiment I was doing, and put them into three tanks. (Four actually, I put the extras in an old 2.5). A few days after I put them in, they started to rot in the first three. I had put a tiny amount of ferts in them, (By eye, not by precise measurements). I forgot the name of them, but they are closely looking to elodea (not elodea, it is banned in Florida for being an invasive species.) On the 2.5 I only put Excel fertilizers. The 2.5 is starting to rot now, around a week later. It has no artificial lighting, its just next to a window. The 5 gallons had 10/15 watts in fluorescents. The leaves started turning brown, rotting, and then the stalks. The sand sround the plant turned brown.
What could be causing this?
